Any other newbies to Spiritfire this year?

topic posted Sun, June 22, 2008 - 6:56 PM by  Amy
This year will be my first year attending the festival. I am super excited. Is anyone else on this message board new? Do people ever go alone? because I don't know anyone else that can afford to/want to/able to take time off work to go so I will be driving out there alone - so if anyone needs a ride from Queens, Brooklyn, NYC area let me know. But anyway is it odd to go as a loner?? Any tips for a newcomer??

I can't reply specifically about SpiritFire, but last year I went to the JT Didge Festival in California totally by myself... flew out alone, drove there in a rental car alone, and was alone for all of two minutes when I arrived before I met some new people and felt right at home.

So, I don't think it is odd to go as a loner... I think it adds to the excitement and adventure of the whole experience!

In fact, after Tree Man, I may try to run away from home for a couple days and just show up at SpiritFire as I would really like to go, too. :)

LOL yah come and bring some didge juice from Tree Man with ya! (except make sure you let us know you're coming before reg closes - there are no walk-in registrations)

But you're right; going to a gathering alone changes the dynamic, and it's fun. I went to a drum gathering last year alone - hadn't done that in a long time - it really changed the vibe for me, into a relaxed, non-scheduled feel. Personally, it feels like doing that at least once a year is really healthy.

      Can't wait for SpiritFire!

    hi Amy,
I am so glad you will be joining us. Yes, people come alone and soon realize they are anything but alone. It is a really welcoming community and you will not be the only new girl in town.
I started "alone" and soon after arriving I felt quite at home. Many smiling faces to greet you and help you get settled.
I will be running an affinity group that is called Homecoming and it is for people just like yourself. So continue your super excitement and get ready to have a great time. Spiritfire is the cream of the crop for festivals.
    Blessings, junie Moon
