NE supplier of Panart drum (Hang drum)?

topic posted Mon, July 10, 2006 - 10:23 AM by  Scott
On Tuesday night's circle, Bright Hawk was playing a Panart drum (also called a Hang drum, or UFO).

Can anyone tell me who is the NE regional supplier for the drum? I'd love to buy one and need to try it out and discuss specifics.

Thanks.

I've been doing a similar investigation - right now, apparently, production of the hangs have stopped, and are no longer available new. You'd have to get a used one; I saw one post on groups.yahoo.com/group/HangDrum/ and folks there might have more info if you're looking for a specific scale/kind.

Hopefully in the future, production will start again!

The only way at this time to acquire a new generation Hang, is to travel to Bern Switzerland, where they are made or if you know of someone willing to travel to Bern and pick one out for you.

The two makers now create up to 2 Hangs a day, as opposed to as many as 8, from the old production model they used to follow. Because of the greater amount of time put into these new generation Hangs, they are more deeper, resonant and incredibly beautiful sounding.

All Hang inquiries should go directly to them. info@hang.ch

The last Hang I saw for sale in the us was for $1,300 (US).

If you buy it directly from the hang makers the instrument costs 900 CHF or 600 €.

I heard, that they have went on their yearly recreation earlier this year and it will last until march 07. So, it might be hard to get a hang at the present time. But just ask them... who knows?

I've decided to part ways with my Hang. I only played it a little bit, and even though I love it, the Hang needs to be in someone's hands who will really make it sing!

Head on over to ebay for a look if you're interested .. search for item 150106464562.

here is the info on the NA Representative for the makers of the Panart Drums...

Ron Kravitz <musicinthemoment@earthlink.net> tell him i sent you...i have spent many, many hours tracking them down....
he will be in switzerland for the next month and i dont know what kind of web access he will have:
the makers of the panart drums are artists and they want to stay away from production.

so, the total number of hangs tha twill be produced is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than previous years.
the way i understand it, is that thru some very intensive negotiation, there are very specific allotments that are made for different parts of the world. US (and Canada) have a spring allotment (sold out completely) and a fall allotment (limited availability.

Ron is taking orders (prepaid, $1500 US, plus shipping from Philly to you)

i am blessed and pleased to share that i will be welcoming a hang baby to our family come may of 2007...
      mmmmm.

      good luck!
      peace matters,
      imani

PS: last Hang on Ebay sold for over 2k...

the makers of the panart drums are artists and they want to stay away from mass production for a number of reasons: self care being one of them.

so, the total number of hangs that will be produced from this point forward is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than in previous years.
the way i understand it, is that thru some persistent and intensive negotiation, Ron (US rep) and David (canadian rep), have secured 2 allotments of panart drums.

the spring allotment has been sold (both us and canada)
there are some available for the fall allotment.

Ron is taking orders for the fall US drums (prepaid, $1500 US, plus shipping from Philly to you).
if you are SERIOUS about caretaking one of these intergalactic planetary pods of harmony....get in touch with Ron NOW.

Ping me if you are from Canada and want David's contact info...

and finally, i am blessed and pleased to share that i will be welcoming a hang baby to our family come may of 2007...

        Hey all!

I updated the ebay listing so that it now has a link to a recording of it being played (by me, so don't expect much) as well as a listing of the notes that grace this Hang. It is going to be listed for a few more days: ebay item number 150106464562

I have been unbelievably lucky in my hunt for a Hang drum.
Like so many i encountered the hang and immediately needed the sound in my life on a permenant basis.
For me i first met a hang while studying in New zealand, a group of us at my college stood entranced by this strange UFO shaped disk, and i knew i had to find one.
After alot searching i found the adress Info@hang.ch
after a number of e-mails, i responded almost instantly when they sent out requests (i assume to a mailing list of interested people) for 3 days in april of 2007 on which i could come and visit the hang haus in berne.
The trip itself, more of a pilgrimage was an amazing experience, i spent around 4 hours choosing my hang (or it chose me should i say)
An immensly difficult task when faced with around 25 pristene examples of the instrument, all with their own unique and equaly gripping characteristics.
during my brief stay with the Hangmakers , i met Ron kravitz who i believe is mentioned obove, and who is as i understand it the sole supplier to north America and Canada.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the new generation hang hangs, and so im told very rare 8 note Gudu hangs.
I think they only sell them in september and april.
The demand is huge and they operate on a first come first serve basis.
I was told that even people who replyed in response to their mail request within a matter of hours are waiting until 2010.
i have heard of a lucky few who have obtained Hangs through other means..For example attending the 'hang out' a low key percussion festival which i think takes place in the summer somewhere around the glastonbury/worthy farm area in the UK. i was either sent a link for it or ive seen a website i cant remember.
What i originaly viewed as an impossible task payed off for me, so keep trying and eventually you will suceed!
    good luck

    Guys

There is a company in the States researching into the production of hang drums. The company is Pantheon Steel - they make steel drums. There is a link on the home page re. hang drums, click it for a standard reply and the opportunity to get the updates, register your interest, etc.

    pantheonsteel.com

We may have an alternative supplier to Panart.

Much has changed since 2006, and there's a good summary here:

    www.hangblog.org/2006/11/2...uy-a-hang/

Short version is PANArt is still making the Hang and at this point offer it directly to those interested. Those who sent letters last year are getting their Hang this year.

As others have mentioned with the tremendous publicity and success PANArt has experienced in the past few years there are a few folks who are working on Hang alternatives (Hand Pans, etc). Pantheon Steel has indicated they will soon be offering a Hand Pan, there is a hand instrument called a Caisa available from a German Steel Pan maker, and there is an internet company called Blackbells that has said they're working on something as well.
